Michael Louis Moore

AUTRAIN, MI – Michael Louis Moore, age 60, died following an accident in Greenville, SC on Sunday, December 17, 2017.

He was born on August 29, 1957 in St. Louis, Missouri to Cairl and Sally (Oxley) Moore. Mike’s family moved to Marquette in 1968. During high school, he participated on the swim team and spent his summers as a life guard. Mike graduated from Marquette Senior High School in 1975 and attended Northern Michigan University. He was an instructor of several swim lessons. In 1982, Mike earned his Bachelor of Arts in Photography and was a talented photographer. He especially enjoyed taking pictures of nature and animals. Mike worked at Cook Signs and then was an over the road truck driver and was employed by Rapid River Logistics. He married Keena Marie Jones on September 19, 2010 in Key West, Florida where he taught Keena how to snorkel. Together they loved their great danes and therapy dogs Zoey and Bella. He was looking forward to retirement so he could get back into photography and continue his passion with therapy dogs. Mike was also looking to become involved with HOPE upon his retirement. Mike was active with Superiorland Pet Partners and their pet therapy programs and took their photos for the organization. Mike was supportive of Keena with her work with HOPE Animal Assisted Crisis Response, Midwest Region. He and Keena were also partners in their independent Amway business MKMJ Worldwide.

Mike also had a culinary gift in the kitchen. He was a wonderful cook and had a knack for knowing just what spice or hot sauce a recipe needed to perfect it. Mike enjoyed hunting and fishing and enjoyed spending deer camp at “Camp Drink A Lot” where he was the main cook. He also loved travelling on his motorcycle, spending time with family, gathering around bon fires, SCUBA diving, canoeing, and kayaking. Mike loved music and was a faithful “Parrothead”, and he also enjoyed listening to The Gaithers and Garrison Keeler programs on NPR. Mike was generous with his time and talents. Mike had a big heart and a giving nature and was there to help anyone who needed him. Mike’s final act of kindness was through organ and tissue donation where his kidneys were received by two recipients and his tissues by many.

He is survived by his loving wife – Keena Jones of AuTrain; step-daughter – Christine Kryscio of Littleton, CO; father – Cairl Moore of Marquette; sisters – Lisa (Roy Dodman) Moore of Everett, WA, Laura (George) West of Weymouth, MA, Amy (George) Baranek of Marquette; brother – David (Wendy Larson) Moore of Negaunee; mother-in-law – Marie Jones of Jackson, MI; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law – David (Carol) Jones, Mark (Patsy) Jones, and Greg Jones all of Jackson, MI, Kim Jessup of Parma, MI, and Kevin (Brittany) Jones of Philadelphia, PA; nieces and nephews – Alexandro, Myrah, Angel, Cierra, R.J., Max, Melissa, Wendy, Angela, Cara, Jessie, Nicki, Hailey, new baby niece, Richard (Mandi), Jesse (Marlena), Ayezeyah, Brody, and Kalomb.
