June Chaperon

ISHPEMING, MI – June E. Chaperon, 86, of Ishpeming, died Tuesday afternoon, December 5, 2017 at her home under the care of her loving daughter, Kathleen, and U.P. Home Health and Hospice.

June was born on June 6, 1931 in Chocolay Township, Michigan, a daughter of the late James and Eva (DesJardins) LaValley and was a lifelong area resident. She was a 1948 graduate of Bishop Baraga High School and attended St. Luke’s School of Nursing.

June was employed as an operating room technician at Bell Memorial Hospital in Ishpeming for many years.

She was an avid hunter, especially enjoying bird hunting. June also enjoyed antiquing, gardening and throwing dinner parties. More than anything else, she reveled spending time with her family and times at camp.

Survivors include four children, Kathleen Schroeder of Ishpeming, Mary Cohodes of Crivitz, WI, Edward G. (Mary Jo) Chaperon of Iron Mountain and James Chaperon of Ishpeming; 14 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; one sister, Grace Desormier of Marquette; several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death besides her parents was a daughter, Dianne Chaperon in 2005; her husband, Edward Chaperon in 2014; a son-in-law, Gene Schroeder in 2016; also six siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 9th at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Larry Van Damme officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends in the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the mass on Saturday. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall immediately following the mass. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

June’s granddaughters will act as her escorts.

June’s family would like to extend a special thank you to her loving and caring neighbors for taking exceptional love and care of both her and Ed over many years.
