Donald Oswald

GWINN, MI – Donald L. Oswald, 84, of Gwinn, died Sunday morning, November 19, 2017 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans.

He was born June 26, 1933 in Elgin, Illinois a son of the late Chester and Irma (Druehl) Oswald. On August 15, 1957 he married Yachiyo Yamazaki in Tokyo, Japan and she preceded him in death on November 6, 2015.

Donald served in the US Air Force for 26 years, was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War, and retired in 1978 as a Master Sergeant. He then went to work for Menards where he was employed for many years. He was a member of the Gwinn VFW, NRA and Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Donald accomplished two lifelong goals, a 6 month trip to Alaska, which he took with his wife, Yachiyo and owning a horse.

He is survived by two sons, Michael (Taunya) Oswald of Neguanee and Terry (Denise) Oswald of Placerville, CA; grandchildren, Michael Jr. (Sarah), Daniel (Cheyenne), Matthew (Rebecca), Nathan (Dana), Raina, Jordan, Sierra, Menominee (Richard) and Caleb (Shantal); 6 great-grand children; friend, Karen DuQuaine of Gwinn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, siblings and beloved dog, Comet.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 12 Noon in the Canale- Gwinn Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Westman officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior the service in the funeral home. Interment will take place in the Gwinn Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Little Lake American Legion Honor Guard.
