Robert A. Asikainen

ROBERT ASIKAINEN

ISHPEMING, MI – Robert A. Asikainen age 89, of Ishpeming, passed away Monday October 16, 2017 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility while in the loving care of his family and nursing home staff.

Robert was born in Ishpeming on July 14, 1928 to the late Anthony and Fannie (Syrjala) Asikainen. He attended Ishpeming High School and was in the graduating Class of 1946. Robert worked as an Electronic Repairman at CCI for 42 years. He and his wife Nancy were married for 67 years.

Robert was known for playing guitar and singing in the Polkateers. He enjoyed playing cribbage in the Ishpeming cribbage league for over 40 years. He like hunting, fishing, and especially being at camp on the Dead River Basin, and spending time with his grandchildren. Robert sang at the nursing home, and sang with Suomi Kutsuu. He was a life long member of the Musicians Union.

Robert is survived by his wife Nancy (Anderson) Asikainen of Ishpeming, 5 children- Gary Asikainen of Negaunee, Robert Asikainen, James (Diane) Asikainen, Kathy (Russell) Sylvester, Connie Hough all of Ishpeming, 7 grandchildren- Andrew (Annie) Asikainen, Shawn Asikainen, Craig Asikainen, Amy (David) Huetter, Ann Sylvester, Deanna Stephens, Trevor Stephens, 12 great grandchildren- Cassandra, Allison, Evan, Desmond, Logan, Luke, Liam, Adriana, Trevor, Quinton, Madison, Dalton, sisters-in-law- Irene Johnson of FL, Connie Johnson, and Marian Basal, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers- Roy and Clarence Johnson, son-in-law Randy Hough. The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday October 21, 2017 from 1:00 pm until the time of the Memorial Service at 3:00 pm at the Mission Covenant Church located at 1001 N. 2nd St. in Ishpeming, Rev. Debra Heino will officiate.

A coffee social will follow the services in the church hall.
