Timothy V. Pelto

RAPID RIVER, MI – Timothy V. Pelto, age 62, of Rapid River, MI, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 21, 2017, at Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba with his beloved wife, Dixie, at his side.

He was born on July 18, 1955 in L’Anse, Michigan, the 4th son of the late John (Jack) and Jeannine (Bellaire) Pelto. Tim grew up on a farm, attended Baraga schools and graduated in 1973. He attended Ferris State College and received an Associate Degree in Diesel Mechanics. He was currently employed as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic in the fire program for the State of Michigan Department of Natural Resources in Marquette. Prior to that, he worked for the Alger County Road Commission, Payne & Dolan Construction, and he also owned and operated his own logging trucks.

Tim married the love of his life, Dixie Tahtinen, on May 19th, 1979. He was a devoted husband and father to his two children, Jessica and Charlie. He loved working on tractors, old jeeps and all types of heavy equipment. When he wasn’t in his shop fixing things he also enjoyed Jeep rides, playing guitar and singing, hunting, ice fishing, gardening, and working on their hobby farm. He could and would fix anything for anyone, always with a smile. His sense of humor was never spared when the opportunity was provided. Family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues will miss him immensely.

Tim is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Dixie, of Rapid River; daughter, Jessica Pelto of Escanaba; son, Charles Pelto of Trenary; his mother, Jeannine Pelto of Baraga; brothers, Russell of San Diego, and Paul (Lori) of Clyman, Wisconsin; sisters, Cathy (Bolton-Jurmu) of L’Anse, and Debbie (Keith) Budreau of Rubicon, Wisconsin; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, John; and brother, Neil Pelto.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017, from 2-4 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba.

Services will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Schierkolk and Pastor Troy Budreau officiating.

Burial will take place in the Pelkie Cemetery on Sunday, July 30th at 2:00 p.m. in Pelkie, MI.
