He was born on August 3, 1961 in Munising to Joe and Ruth (McClary) Monroe. Tim graduated from William G. Mather High School in 1979. After graduation, Tim worked for Timber Products for a short time before entering into the United States Marine Corps. He worked in a warehouse distribution center, and was stationed in Okinawa. Tim was honorably discharged in July of 1983 and was awarded the Rifle Marksman Badge and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. He went back to Timber Products working in both the veneer mill and saw mill. He married Kathy Strand on June 12, 1993. Tim then earned his Criminal Justice Certificate from Northern Michigan University and began working as a Corrections Officer at Alger Maximum Correction Facility until his retirement in 2014. Tim was always on the go, and loved the outdoors. He looked forward to deer season every year. If he wasn’t in the woods hunting or camping, he was riding the back roads on his side-by-side, pontooning on Lake Superior, or traveling across the country with Kathy on their Harley. Tim was a huge Detroit Red Wing Fan and loved watching NASCAR cheering for Dale Earnhardt. Tim was a handyman around the house, and enjoyed wood working. He was a member of the American Legion Post 131. Tim was very much a people person, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends and finding a reason to throw a party.
