Robert J. Johnson Sr.

ISHPEMING, MI. – Robert J. Johnson, Sr., age 92 of 113 Co. Rd. GMA Ishpeming passed away Friday March 24, 2017 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where he has resided since February.

Robert was born June 23, 1924 in Escanaba, MI to Evald & Myrtle (Rich) Johnson. He served his country in the United States Army-Air Force during World War II with the 603 Bomb Squadron and was a flight engineer for the B-17 Bombers.

Robert worked for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company as an underground miner at the Mather B Mine and later retired from the Tilden Mine. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, watching the Green Bay Packers and coffee clutching at “Sherries” in Ishpeming.

Robert is survived by 3 children: Robert (Lori) Johnson Jr., Barbara (Donald) Manty, and Charles (Claudia) Johnson all of Ishpeming, 2 sisters: Helen Korpi of Marquette and Jo-Ann Pilon of Kingsford, 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, wife Donna and infant daughter Kristine and numerous brothers and sisters.

Honoring Roberts wishes, private services will be held at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming with Pastor JJ Mannschreck officiating. Burial will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
