Norma Mae Romo

NORMA ROMO

SKANDIA, MI – Norma Mae Romo, 86, formerly of 98 Croix St., Negaunee and longtime Skandia resident, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, March 18, 2017 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility.

Norma was born May 6, 1930 in Negaunee to Arthur and Martha (Manty) Rivers and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1948. Following graduation, she attended Northern Michigan University, earning her LPN degree through the nursing program. Norma was employed at the Palmer Nursing Home, Marquette County Health Department and Norlite Nursing Center.

Mrs. Romo was a former member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Skandia. She was a selfless volunteer within her community, often helping at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans and for RSVP.

Apart from volunteering, Norma enjoyed knitting, gardening, cooking, reading and camping.

Surviving are three daughters: Kristine (Dan Clark) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Barbara (Robert Schaut) of Iron Mountain and Cheryl (Jan Pear) Brach of Menominee; two sisters: Elsie Suardini of Negaunee and Yvonne Savala of Charlotte; five grandchildren: Sara Mitra Payan and Nathan Payan, Rachel Bartkowiak, and Heather and Rachel Pear; nieces and nephews: Teri Walters, Cindy Marsh, Sandy Boyce, Karen Krause, Rick Savala, Gary Suardini and Alan Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Arthur T. Romo in 2004; her brother, Arthur Rivers, Jr; and two brothers-in-law, Peter Suardini and Douglas Savala.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 24th at Koskey Funeral Home with Rev. John Ruege officiating. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Norma’s memory to UPAWS, 84 Snowfield Rd., Negaunee, MI 49866.
