Leonard Fluette

MARQUETTE, MI – Leonard H. Fluette, 84, of Marquette, died peacefully, Saturday morning, March 18, 2017, at his home.

He was born May 14, 1932 in Marquette, the son of the late Leonard and Irene (Silversteen) Fluette. He was a 1949 graduate of Bishop Baraga High School and was a lifelong area resident.

On November 28, 1951 he married Arlene “Tillie” Richards at St. Peters Cathedral.

Early in his career, Leonard worked for Elson Bottling Works delivering Coca Cola products. He then owned and operated two businesses; Fluette’s Standard Service Station and Flanigan’s Bar until his retirement.

Leonard was a member of the Elks Lodge, was an avid Green Bay Packer and Detroit Tigers fan.

Growing up in North Marquette, Leonard would say, you could get your “street smarts” at Cully’s Service Station.

In his early years he raced stock cars on the dirt track circuit. He also followed NASCAR while wintering with Tillie during retirement in Florida and had the thrill of riding the high banks at Daytona International Speedway.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Tillie Fluette of Marquette; children, Patrick (Sharon) Fluette of Marquette, Susan (Michael) Beerman of East Leroy, MI and Marilyn Libick of Big Bay; grandchildren, Brian Fluette, Garret & Adam Guidebeck, Tom Fure, Charlie Burridge, Elizabeth Beerman, Dirk, Tiffany and Jessica Fluette; sisters, Diane (Buster) Alexander and Jeanne VanAbel, both of Marquette; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Fluette; sisters, Mary Ann VandeZande and Linnea Sanson; and a brother, John Fluette.

A private funeral service will be held. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Leonard’s family would like to thank the special caregivers who made it possible for him to remain at home prior to his passing.
