JAMES MEYERS

ISHPEMING, MI – James P. Meyers, age 86 of 772 Duncan Ave. Ishpeming passed away Saturday March 25, 2017 at his home while in the loving care of his family and UP Home Health & Hospice.

James was born January 27, 1931 in Monroe, MI to Charles & Elizabeth (McMillan) Meyers. Jim graduated from Monroe High School and attended Michigan Technological University, graduating with a Mining and Geological Engineering Degree.

Jim worked for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company for 36 years, retiring as the Empire Mine General Manager. Jim spent time traveling to South America and lived in Perth, Western Australia for 5¢ years working on the Cleveland Cliffs Robe River project. After retirement he continued to stay active in the community, he was an active board member of the Bay Cliff Health Camp, served on the Board of Directors of the Miners Bank, Salvation Army, Marquette County Fair Board member and most recently a member of the Ishpeming Cemetery Committee.

Jim had many passions, a few include trout stream fishing, reading, mining, loved planting trees on his property out south but family, especially his grand kids were most important to Jim. Jim also enjoyed morning coffee with the guys.

Jim is survived by his wife Marlene Ann (Morcom) Meyers, whom he married on December 29, 1962, a daughter Tina (Dave) Doney of Appleton, WI, 2 sons: Drew (Tara) Meyers of DePere, WI and Brett (Molly) Meyers of Crivitz, WI, grandchildren: Travis, Andrew, Rachel, Nick, McKenna, Marli and Miles, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers: Richard and Charles Meyers.

A memorial service for Jim will be held at 11:00 am Friday, March 31, 2017 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Warren Geier officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.

Jim’s family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming from 4:00-7:00 pm and on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am.
