Wayne E. Anttila

MENOMINEE, MI. – Wayne E. Anttila, 74, of Menominee, Mich. passed away Saturday June 6, 2015 at home. He was born on January 30, 1941 in Ishpeming, Mich. to the late Edward and Angela (Luca) Anttila. Wayne graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1959 and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Masters in Administration from Northern Michigan University. On December 26, 1964 he married Kay Williamson in Negaunee, Mich. In 1965 Wayne began his career with the Menominee School District as a teacher; he later served as the Principal at the Middle School and then served as Athletic Director and Director of Community Schools, retiring in 1999. He was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church, The Jaycees, North Shore Golf Club, Menominee Rotary, Menominee Area Credit Union and he also sang in the Menominee County Choir.

He enjoyed working with area youth and served as a coach for Babe Ruth Baseball, Legion Baseball, 8th Grade Boys Basketball, High School Tennis and Freshman Football.

He continued his involvement with Menominee Sports in retirement as a Radio Announcer for Maroon Basketball and Football from 1999 through 2005.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Kay, his beloved children including two sons Dave (Erinn) of Menominee and Mike (Jennifer) of Holiday, Florida, a daughter Brigetta (Eric) Wingender of Appleton, Wis; his cherished grandchildren: Nathan, Jon, Emma, Anna, Olivia, Morgan, Cole, Kaila, Connor, and Madalyn; two brothers Allen and Bob both of Ishpeming, Mich; a sister Cheryl Perroud of Marquette, Mich; his brother-in-law John Williamson of Pelham, New Hampshire, nieces, nephews and many other family members and friends. Wayne’s family would also like to extend their appreciation for all of the assistance and support that many friends and members of the community provided over the recent years.

Funeral services for Wayne will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church in Menominee on Friday, June 12, 2015 at 6pm. Friends may call at the church from 3 p.m. until the time of services. Rev. Scott Ehle will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Menominee.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Wayne’s memory. Any expressions of sympathy and kindness can be directed to a family member.
