Thelma I. Dyer

SCOTT’S GRADE, MI / COMANCHE, OK. – Thelma I. Dyer, age 72, of Scott’s Grade, Michigan and Comanche, Oklahoma and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, MI, died unexpectedly on Monday, July 28, 2014 at her home following a brief illness. She was born on November 21, 1941 in Edmore, Michigan to the late Albert and Leona Ehle. Thelma grew up in Mt. Pleasant attending Ganiard Elementary and graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1960. She married Roger Hughes on March 22, 1965 and together they had three children. He preceded Thelma in death after fourteen years of marriage on November 30, 1979.

She married Curtis “Tex” Dyer on June 30, 1990. The two of them lived in Mt. Pleasant for a few years until Thelma retired from the State of Michigan after working at the Mt. Pleasant Regional Center for Developmental Disabilities. They moved to Oklahoma and would summer in Thelma’s family cabin in the U.P where she loved the outdoors. Thelma would say, “If God made anything better than the U.P., He kept it to Himself.” She loved fishing, hunting, berry picking, working cross word puzzles, reading the Porcupine Press (even in Oklahoma), and dirty jokes.

Thelma is survived by her husband of 24 years Tex Dyer; children Lori (Ken) Fuller of Mt. Pleasant, Terri Hughes of Mt. Pleasant, Jack (Deanna) Dyer of Marlow, OK, Corie (Rod) Gilbert of Duncan, OK, Bob (Dawn) Hughes of Comanche, OK, and Angie Dyer of Lowton, OK; son-in-law Don Jones of Valley View, TX; twenty-five grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; sister Jayne Lopiccolo of Mt. Pleasant; brother Russell Ehle of Harrison, MI; brothers-in-law Ray Smith of Mt. Pleasant and Joe (Mary) Dyer of Chickasha, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Roger; daughter Marcella Jones; twin sister Jackie Smith; brother Craig Ehle; and parents-in-law Floyd and Billie Dyer.

Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Pastor Jason LaFlamme will conduct Thelma’s memorial service at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home’s chapel. A fellowship gathering will take place at the Boot Lake Bar following the memorial service. Additional memorial services will be held at later dates in both Mt. Pleasant and Oklahoma.
