HarborFest being planned

MARQUETTE – This year promises to be another celebration of Lake Superior and its environs as Marquette West Rotary celebrates its 32nd annual festival in Mattson’s Lower Harbor Park the last weekend in August.

A new tradition has begun with HarborFest’s Thursday night, Aug. 27, event – the Waterfront Gala. Some 250 guests will be treated to surf and turf dinner with beer and wine tastings from Bayside Beverage and Everyday Wines’ connoisseurs under the lighted gala tent.

Music and entertainment will be provided from Double Trouble DJs, catered by Michele Butler of

Vango’s and with live auctioneers Mark Canale and Al Hunter. People are advised to get their tickets early, as the gala sells out fast.

To purchase tickets to Waterfront Gala contact Jamie Tomczyk, chairwoman: jtomczyk82@gmail.com.

HarborFest’s Friday night (Aug. 28) live music will kick off with the Upper Peninsula’s classic rock groups GLC and Trailer Hitch, leading up to headliner 906.

On Saturday, Aug. 29’s crowd will be treated to HarborFest’s classic car and motorcycle show beginning at 9 a.m., with music, food vendors, beer and wine tents and activities beginning at noon with the South Shore Fishing Association’s live dockside release, kids activities and bouncy houses, an array of

musicians like the acoustic duo Gerry and Alison, local favorites Outlaw’d and Chasin’ Steel, who even played a bluegrass version of “Shook Me All Night Long” leading into last year’s headliner AC/DC tribute band Night Prowler.

This year’s Saturday cover band headliner One promises to bring the house down with its renditions of U2 songs from “The Joshua Tree” like “One Love” and “Where the Streets Have No Name” and even some Zeppelin and Aerosmith songs.

HarborFest is designed to please every music and foodie palate as all food vendors promise to bring along a seafood favorite to appeal to the SeafoodFest and Lake Superior heritage.

HarborFest and Waterfront Gala are important fundraising efforts that help support Marquette West Rotary’s contributions to numerous non-profit organizations throughout Marquette County.

Last year alone, more than $40,000 was raised during HarborFest.
