NSDAR makes donation of $1,000 to U.P. Honor Flight

The Unsung Heroes Fund, which is held at the Community Foundation of Marquette County, granted $2,300 to the Alzheimer’s Association U.P. Region for their Diseases and Dementia Education Initiative. This fund was created in 2006 by John and Mary Argeropoulos, in memory of John’s mother, who spent 10 years of Mather Nursing Center, in great care. In the time they spent visiting John’s mother, they gained enormous respect for the caregivers who consistently provide high quality care, while laboring under very stressful conditions that are physically, emotionally, and spiritually exhausting. The two began to search for an appropriate way to express their gratitude to these hardworking, underpaid individuals. John and Mary started a scholarship at Northern Michigan University and the Unsung Heroes Fund at the Community Foundation. The scholarship is available to employees of Mather Nursing Center and their dependents. The fund is available to nonprofit organizations to provide support and self-renewal training for nursing home, hospice and home care workers throughout Marquette County. For more information regarding the fund please contact the Community Foundation of Marquette County.
