Marquette Symphony Orchestra performs children’s concert series

The Marquette Symphony Orchestra filled Kaufman Auditorium twice on Oct. 26 to perform the second installment of its new children’s concert series. The MSO performed two concerts for fourth and fifth graders from Graveraet, Superior Hills, Sandy Knoll, Cherry Creek, Powell Township, Father Marquette, North Star, Aspen Ridge, Negaunee, Ishpeming, Crystal Falls, Superior Central and West Iron County. More than 1,300 students were there. The orchestra, along with the Marquette County Children’s Choir, performed selections from its Halloween concert program. The orchestra’s principal conductor, Octavio Octavio Más-Arocas, spoke to the students between each piece. “The MSO is committed to continuing these children’s concerts,” said Dan Arnold, MSO president, in a news release. “Music education is a key part of our mission.” The MSO thanks the Community Foundation of Marquette County for supporting the children’s concert program, which started in the 2016-17 season. The orchestra’s next performance is Sounds of the Holidays on Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Kaufman Auditorium. Tickets are on sale through NMU Ticket Outlets. The MSO is a 501c3 nonprofit organization, as ticket revenue only covers a third of the orchestra’s annual operating budget. More information is available at www.marquettesymphony.org.
