Thrivent team seeking donations

The “Sunday Sewers” have formed a Thrivent Action Team in Marquette County. The Action Team is for a project that will provide homeless children with homemade blankets and other essentials. Participants are looking for community support through monetary donations or supplies. The project began in 2016 and will continue through fall 2017. You do not have to be a member of Thrivent to donate. This project was born after a member of the Sunday Sewers club attended a Salvation Army board meeting. While at the meeting, she heard Theresa Sell of Thrivent Financial speak about her passion to help children and her dismay over the number of homeless youth in Marquette County. Sell asked for support helping these youth, and the Sunday Sewers responded in full force! The Sewers started a project called Caring Quilts for Kids that uses donated t-shirts and fleece to make unique, fun blankets for children in need. The quilts are their main sewing project, but they include a package of items alongside every donated quilt that includes a travel pillow and assorted toiletries. These quilt packages are distributed to homeless youth through the school systems in the Marquette County area. The Sunday Sewers have a goal of 100 quilts and have so far made 40; Prince of Peace Church, the Women’s Center, and many other individual donations have made those 40 quilts possible. Now the Sunday Sewers are reaching out into the community and asking for more t-shirt donations and monetary donations to purchase necessities like the fleece for the quilt back and sewing materials such as thread.
