Cliffs Eagle Comm. Fund backs IOHT

The Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority installed a mile marker in recognition of the Cliffs Eagle Mine Community Fund at the Republic Bank Building for the fund providing a $156,000 grant to install six kiosks along the trail and provide additional funds for the trail upgrade work in Tilden and Republic townships. Shown at the Republic Bank Building kiosk are authority Chairman Jim Thomas, board member All Reynolds and Kristen Mariuzza, environmental and permitting manager for Lundin Eagle Mine. Kiosks were installed this past summer at the Michigan Department of Transportation Welcome Center in Harvey, Marquette Commons, Schwemwood Park, Michigan Iron Industry Museum and Republic Bank Building. The last one will be installed at Lions Field in Chocolay Township. Trail upgrades in Republic and Tilden Townships – which include grading and surfacing of non-motorized and motorized trails, Carp River and Republic bog overlooks and signage, will be completed next summer.
