Delta County Sheriff’s Office searching for additional victims

ESCANABA — The Delta County Sheriff’s Office is looking for additional victims who may have been messaged as part of an online messaging scheme to get photos and videos of young girls.

An investigation by the sheriff’s office indicates young girls were being contacted on Instagram, Snapchat and possibly other social media and messaging apps. After the initial contact, the girls would be asked to add the profile as a “friend” on social media and then to send photos or videos of themselves in exchange for money. Two known profiles used in the scheme were “roberte1993” on Instagram and “darknordor” on Snapchat.

During the course of the investigation, Joshua Ecklid, 31 of Gladstone, was arrested and lodged at the Delta County Jail. He has been arraigned on charges of Child Sexually Abusive Materials, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison; two counts of Possession of Child Sexually Abusive Material, a felony punishable by up to four years in prison; and Using a Computer to Commit a Crime, Maximum Imprisonment 20 years or Life, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

At the time of his arraignment in 95th District Court, Ecklid’s bond was set at $250,000.

Investigators believe the activity has been going on for at least three years, likely longer, and there may be additional victims. Anyone who has had similar contact, especially with the “roberte1993” and “darknordor” accounts or with Ecklid, is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 906-786-3633 ext. 357.
