ESCANABA — The U.P. Military Museum will hold an open house Tuesday, Dec. 7, National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

“A Night of Remembrance” will feature a program with World War II veteran John D’Antonio of Escanaba. D’Antonio joined the U.S Army at age 18 and served in the Pacific with the 136th Infantry Regiment of the 33rd Infantry Division.

The museum will be open for tours and a special presentation during the program will include the Upper Peninsula Honor Flight.

“It’s important as a community to remember the role that those in the Upper Peninsula played in defending our country,” said Skip Dufour, board president of the U.P. Military Museum in a news release. “Using the day that Pearl Harbor was attacked is a great opportunity to learn more about those who served from the U.P.”

Eleven Upper Peninsula residents were killed on Dec. 7, 1941, when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. Their names will be read during the program.

“A Night of Remembrance” open house will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. with a program at 6. p.m.

Scouts from Troop 411 and 410 will present the colors to open the program. Refreshments will also be served.

The U.P. Military Museum is located at the Delta Commerce Center at the U.P. State Fairgrounds. It opened in July.
