UPSET makes arrests in Ontonagon, Baraga

MARQUETTE — On Wednesday, detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team and troopers from the Wakefield Post arrested two people from Ontonagon County involved in selling illegal drugs.

The two suspects are involved in separate investigations which aren’t related.

After a six-month investigation, detectives from UPSET arrested Benjamin Hess, 29, from Ontonagon on two counts of delivery of methamphetamine, a 20-year felony and being a habitual offender-third offense. Hess was arraigned in 98th District Court, Ontonagon County, and his bond was set at $50,000 cash.

After a three-month investigation, detectives from UPSET arrested Mathew Walters, 30, from Ontonagon, on three counts of delivery of methamphetamine, 20-year felony. Walters was arraigned and his bond was set at $5,000 cash.

Also on Wednesday, following a two-month investigation, detectives from UPSET arrested a 37-year-old suspect from Baraga on two counts of delivery of methamphetamine, a 20-year felony. The suspect’s name will not be released until his arraignment in the 97th District Court, Baraga County.

The suspect is currently lodged in the Ontonagon County Jail on unrelated charges. No bond has been set.
