Parade of Nations design picked

HOUGHTON — From more than 50 entries, the Parade of Nations Committee has picked a design by Emma Riita Moilanen, a sixth grader at Dollar Bay School. She will receive a $200 prize. Her logo features a personalized globe saying “hello” in many languages.

“Thank you so much for picking my design,” Emma said. “I am very grateful and honored. I picked this design so I could show diversity using the different languages of the world. I am excited to see it used for the parade.”

The committee also chose a design by Andre Cole to serve as the permanent logo for the Parade of Nations. His logo features a globe filled with colorful flags of the world.

“There are three responses to a piece of design – yes, no, and WOW!” said Cole. “Wow is the one to aim for.”

Cole is a Jamaican who lives in the United Kingdom. He will receive a $100 prize. The logos represent the theme of this year’s Parade of Nations: The World is Calling. The Parade of Nations will be held on Sept. 18.
