Crystal meth seized in Manistique

MANISTIQUE — The Manistique Department of Public Safety said recently that upon continuing an investigation into a narcotics case initiated in February, officers seized 85 grams of crystal methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $13,000 from a Schoolcraft County residence. Pursuant to this seizure, officers obtained additional felony arrest warrants for Ryan Richard St. John, 43, of Manistique, who remains in custody stemming from a previous drug-related arrest on Feb. 26.

St. John was arraigned Friday on multiple drug charges in the 93rd District Court. His bond was set at $1 million cash or surety with the preliminary hearing on these charges set for 1 p.m. April 3.

Officers also arrested and arraigned two additional suspects in conjunction with the case. They were Thomas James LaVance, 46, and Stephanie Ann Porter, 38, both of Manistique. LaVance was charged with one count of money laundering-third degree, and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering-third degree. Bond was set by the court at $50,000 cash or surety with 10 percent allowed. LaVance’s next court appearance has not been set.

Porter was charged with one count of money laundering-third degree. The court set bond at $25,000 cash or surety with 10 percent allowed, and her next court appearance has not been set.
