1 killed in 2-vehicle crash in St. Ignace

ST. IGNACE — The St. Ignace Police Department is investigating a two-vehicle, single-fatality crash that occurred at 12:13 p.m. Friday on North State Street near South Airport Road in St. Ignace.

A car, driven by an 18-year-old male from Marquette, along with two Marquette-area passengers ages 22 and 16, was pulling out of a business driveway when it collided with a northbound pick-up driven by a 28-year-old female from St. Ignace.

Everyone involved was taken to Mackinac Straits Hospital in St. Ignace where the 22-year-old male, who was a front-seat passenger, died from his injuries.

The 18-year-old driver was later transported to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in downstate Petoskey in critical condition. The 16-year-old passenger later was transported to Petoskey in serious condition.

The 28-year-old female driver was treated and released from Mackinac Straits Hospital.

The roads and weather, along with speed and alcohol, do not appear to be factors at this time. All front-seat occupants were wearing safety belts.

The crash remains under investigation, and no names will be released until family has been notified.

St. Ignace Police were assisted by Michigan State Police, the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office, Sault Tribe Police, the St. Ignace Fire Department, Straits EMS, Emmet County EMS, the St. Ignace Department of Public Works, the Michigan Department of Transportation and Chippewa County Central Dispatch.
