Man lodged in Mackinac County Jail on homicide, B&E charges

MORAN — A suspect has been lodged in the Mackinac County Jail on charges of homicide as well as breaking and entering.

The Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office said that at about 10:30 a.m. Friday, sheriff’s deputies and Michigan State Police were called to a residence in Moran to investigate a suspicious person who allegedly entered a home through the back door without permission.

The homeowner confronted the individual and notified county dispatch.

The individual had blood on his clothes and at one point started removing his clothes and walked outside. A deputy and a trooper arrived at that time and detained the subject.

An investigation revealed the suspect possibly committed a homicide at a nearby residence where the deputy and trooper found a deceased man inside.

The Mackinac County Medical Examiner was notified as well as the Michigan State Police Crime Lab, and they assisted deputies with investigating and processing the scene.

The suspect was taken to Mackinac Straits Hospital for evaluation and subsequently lodged in jail on the homicide and B&E charges.

Search warrants were obtained for several residences and items.

The investigation is continuing.

The name of the victim will not be released until the family is notified.

The name of the arrested subject will not be released until formal charges are made and the subject is arraigned in court.
