Task force continues rescue

Leland, NC — Continuing its work helping out communities affected by Hurricane Florence, Missouri Task Force 1 rescued 12 people trapped in a van on a flooded road.

On early Tuesday morning, there was a report of people trapped on a water-logged road between Leland and Bolivia, North Carolina, according to the Boone County Fire Protection District Facebook page.

Two teams of Task Force 1 members are based in Leland and Bolivia, respectively, and the rescue teams launched boats from both sides and rescued all 12 people.

Task Force 1 arrived on the East Coast on Thursday, making Tuesday its sixth day in operation.

The team based in Leland rescued 44 people and checked on 11 who were sheltering in place.

The other team, based in Bolivia, rescued three people from the town of Boiling Spring Lakes, North Carolina. They also moved 33 people and eight animals to safety.

Overall, that team checked on 496 people who were sheltering in place, according to the Facebook page.
