TC schools end preschool program
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) — Public school trustees in one northern Michigan district have voted to end a free, state-funded preschool program.
Traverse City Area Public Schools trustees voted 6-1 Monday to eliminate the Great Start Readiness Program, the Traverse City Record-Eagle reported. Five teachers in the program also will be laid off.
The program served at-risk students and lower-income families at six elementary schools for three decades, according to the newspaper.
