Teen charged in fatal stabbing

TAYLOR, Mich. (AP) — Prosecutors have charged a 16-year-old boy in last week’s fatal stabbing of another teenager at a graduation party in suburban Detroit.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said Friday the boy faces a second-degree murder charge and two counts of assault with intent to murder. He’s expected to be arraigned Saturday at a juvenile detention center in Detroit.

Authorities say the Southgate teen fatally stabbed 17-year-old Cameron Petty of Detroit on July 6 during a large fight at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Taylor. He also allegedly stabbed two other young men during that brawl.

The teen has been designated as an adult by prosecutors. That means if he’s convicted, a judge can sentence him as a juvenile or as an adult, or blend a juvenile and an adult sentence.
