ESCANABA — The Bishop Noa Home for Senior Citizens received a $300,000 grant for its building fund. The grant came from the Generalate of the Sisters of St. Paul de Chartes in Rome, Italy. “The gift comes from all of the provinces of the Sisters of St. Paul de Chartres throughout the world,’ said Sister Mary Carol Goodman of Marquette, U.S. District Superior. “The monies from this gift are to be used for the convent to house the sisters and the chapel.” The large gift brings the building fund to $841,636. The goal is $1 million.

MARQUETTE-President Eisenhower yesterday afternoon signed a bill authorizing Congress to appropriate $11,471,300 in federal funds for harbor and channel construction projects in Michigan, including two in Marquette. Projects authorized for Marquette include $236,000 for Marquette (Lower) Harbor and $215 for Presque Isle (Upper) Harbor. The bill, similar to measures vetoed by the President in 1956 and 1958, was passed by Congress after consultation with Budget Bureau officials and after some projects and provisions objectionable to the Administration were removed. The bill authorizes about 130 projects all over the nation involving a total cost of approximately $1,400,000,000. Most would be constructed by Army engineers. Other projects authorized for Michigan include Manistee Harbor, $1,735,000, and Menominee Harbor, $715,000
