MARQUETTE — City Manager George T. Meholick Jr. disclosed that he has submitted a proposal to the Michigan State Highway Department which will solve the problem concerning the route relocation near the Holy Family Orphans Home. The new alignment and land swap proposal were discussed with the most Rev. Thomas L. Noa, D.D., bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Marquette, and favorably received by the bishop, Maholick said. The proposed $1,728,000 route relocation of U.S. 41 and M-28, which will bypass the central business district, would begin near the Westwood Road intersection with West Washington Street (present U.S. 41 and M-28 in the Brewery Location) and roughly follow a path easterly along Whetstone Book to Altamont Street and then lead to a point on South Front Street, just south of Palms Street.
