ISHPEMING — Ishpeming stores will be open Thursday evening every week beginning this week. The official announcement was made today by Walter R. Scanlon, executive secretary of the Ishpeming Chamber of Commerce, and Phillip H. Stein head of the chamber’s retail division. “All stores normally open on Friday evening will open on Thursday evening instead,” Scanlon said. “This is a convenience to the shoppers who have found Friday evenings less convenient.” Stein said all Ishpeming businessmen agreed that it would benefit the shoppers who leave after work Friday evening for camp, and those who attend high school football and basketball games and other activities in the community, normally scheduled for Friday evening. The decision was made recently at a meeting of retail members of the Ishpeming Chamber of Commerce.
