MARQUETTE–Marquette’s Lakeview Arena could have a new sign with an electronic message board at no cost to the city. The city commission approved a proposal Monday by Cook Sign Service of Marquette to sell enough advertising to buy and install the sign, estimated to cost $53,000. Cook will have a 20-year contract with the city to sell advertising. The sign will include a rotating center displaying information on arena events two-thirds of the time and advertising the other third. The city’s only responsibility would be cost of operation, estimated at the same $100 a month it costs to operate the present, 16-year-old sign with changeable letters. Cook has until Aug. 31 to sell enough advertising to install the sign.
