MUNISING — Women’s Musical Aerobics will start at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 9 at the Munising Community Center. The class meets twice weekly, Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The one-hour sessions include warm-up and cool-down exercises and a 15-minute peak aerobic period. Materials on nutrition, cholesterol control, calcium, body composition, and other health-related issues will be provided. Participants should bring a rug or mat for floor work and wear clothing suitable for flexibility stretches and low-impact aerobics. The course is designed to meet the needs of each individual, regardless of fitness. Beginners are welcome. The class is sponsored by Alger County Community Schools under the leadership of Norma Harger, 60, who has instructed community physical fitness activities for 30 years. The fee is $1 per session.

NEGAUNEE — Announcement of the schedule for recreation groups, which will be initiated as part of the expanded community school program in Negaunee, was made today be Lowell Johnson, city recreation director. Cooperating with the public schools in the expanded program, the city will sponsor women’s and men’s physical culture classes, square dancing, and contract bridge. Women’s physical culture classes will meet from 7 to 9 each Monday night for a period of 10 weeks in the Central Grade School gymnasium. Ladies who desire to take showers following the class must bring their own towels. Men’s physical culture classes will meet from 7 to 9 on Monday nights starting Jan. 18 in the Negaunee High School gymnasium. Participants must bring their own towels for shower purposes. Instructions in square dancing will be given from 7 to 9 each Tuesday night for a 10-week period in the Central Grade School gymnasium, starting Jan. 5. Contract bridge instructions will be given from 7 to 9 each Tuesday night starting Jan. 5 on the second floor of the Negaunee fire hall. Johnson disclosed that a fee of $3.50 per person will be charged for the square dancing class. There will be no enrollment fee for the other groups sponsored by the recreation department.
