MARQUETTE — A radio/cassette player was reported stolen from a car belonging to a Marquette business Wednesday, said Marquette County sheriff’s deputies. A $400 Alpine AM/FM cassette deck was taken from a locked car parked in a back lot at Rent-A-Wreck, 2274 U.S. 41 West, in Marquette Township some time between 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and 11 a.m. Wednesday, officers said. There was no evidence of forced entry into the vehicle, deputies said.

ISHPEMING — There were six cases of communicable disease here during February, Dr. G. G. Barnett, city health officer, reported to the council Wednesday evening. Dr. Barnett’s report follows: “During the month the following cases of communicable diseases were reported” — Tuberculosis, 2: whooping cough, 2: scarlet fever, 2. Total, 6. During the month 225 calls were made at the office, 55 examinations were made, 12 babies were examined at baby clinics, two homes fumigated, five examinations made at the mental clinic, and six examinations made at the chest clinic. In the laboratory, in addition to the regular examinations of the city water, 18 other examinations were made. During the month 14 births were recorded, 12 males and two females. This would represent a birth rate of 17.9 per 1,000 of the population. During the same period there were 13 deaths, 10 males and three females. Of these, three were stillbirths and three were non-residents. This would represent a death rate of 11.4 per 1,000 of the population.”
