MARQUETTE — The Marquette Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee gave unanimous support Wednesday for completion of two more tree mosaics at Harlow Park. The board’s backing is in the form of a recommendation to the city commission and follows similar action taken earlier by the city’s beautification committee. The mosaics in question are being done by Marquette artist David Gasowski, with three pieces of art completed at the city park. City officials approved Gasowski’s plan last year to create mosaics in diseases portions of three trees, but asked him to stop after complaints were received by area residents. During Wednesday’s parks and recreation meeting, seven people spoke in favor of the art work and a letter of support was received by the committee as well. Nobody spoke against the tree mosaics.

MARQUETTE — A request from Sheriff Sam Ford that a padded cell be built in the county jail was granted by the board. The county clerk was instructed to learn whether there is any state law prohibiting the use of padded cells in jails.
