MARQUETTE – The ice sheet at Northern Michigan University’s physical Education Instructional Facility may grow to Olympic proportions this fall an NMU official said today. The move would insure the continued presence of the medal winning short-track speed skating program at Northern’s U.S. Olympic Education Center, said university President William E. Vandament. Vandament said the expansion would not eliminate the need to upgrade or replace the city owned Lakeview Arena as the home of the NMU Hockey Wildcats.
