MARQUETTE — Promotions for 16 members of the Northern Michigan University and tenure for 13 were approved by the Board of Control May 1. Elevated to the rank of professor are Dr. Ghulam Zalmai, Mathematics/Computer Science; Dr. Linda Riipi, Medical Technology; Dr. Lois Hirs, Education; Lucille Contois, Medical Technology; and Mary Lynn Anderson, Nursing. Promoted to the rank of associate professor are Dr. Eileen Roberts, Art and Design; Dr. Martha Jean Ferrill, Geography; Victor Holliday, Speech; Dr. Christine Platt, Counseling Center; Dr. Bradley Olson, Psychology; Dr. Claudia Orr, Office Systems and Business Education; Dr. Neil Cumberlidge, Biology; Dr. William Ball, Political Science; Dr. Shelley Russell-Parks, Speech; Dr. Linda Payne, Education; and Margaret Sklar, Management, Marketing, and Computer Information Systems. Tenure was granted to Roberts, Ferrill, Platt, Payne, Zalmai, Olson, Dr. Raymond Henry, Speech; Dr. Joel Thompson, Accounting and Finance; Cheryl Reynolds, Nursing; Melissa Hearn, English; Dr. Robert A. Hanson, Criminal Justice; and Dr. William Knox, English. All promotions and tenure are effective Aug. 24.

ESCANABA — Escanaba was selected as the site for the annual winter meeting, in December, of the Upper Peninsula Association of Supervisors at the concluding business session of the spring meeting, held in Marquette during the weekend. Alex Goldade, Brimley, president of the association, who presided at both the Friday and Saturday meetings, held in the Hotel Northland, reported on his attendance at the FORUM, ARA and UPCAP organization meetings, as a representative of the association. FORUM is the organization concerning resources of the Upper Peninsula, ARA is the Area Redevelopment Association and UPCAP is the U.P. Committee on Area Problems.
