SAULT STE. MARIE — The Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge has passed its first sight-seeing test with flying colors. The test was rugged–a climb of 144 feet straight up by stairs and a ladder, then a half-mile walk along a narrow catwalk, three feet wide, high above the swirling waters of the St. Mary’s River. Only about half the way was guarded by a handrail. The rest of it was open walking atop the cross-braces of the bridge girders. The occasion was the link-up of the two halves of the $20,000,000 bridge at the international boundary, which drew engineering, design, and contracting officials from New York, Pittsburg, Chicago, Toronto, and several Michigan cities.
