LOCAL HOLIDAY EVENTS

≤ Dec. 11, Negaunee celebrates Tinseltown starting at 4 p.m. including sleigh rides, cookie decorating at the Negaunee Eagles, live music at the band shell, a tunnel of lights, wine tasting at the VFW, Christmas trees and wreaths for sale and featured specials at many businesses. Parade and tree lighting at 6 p.m., with Santa visits at the Negaunee Elks to follow. Presented by the Negaunee Downtown Development Authority.

Dec. 11, Negaunee VFW 3165 and Auxillary will be putting on the Jeannie Kangas Memorial Wine Tasting from 6-9 p.m. at the post home located at 208 Gold St. Negaunee. A suggested donation of $15 will include three glasses of quality wines, wide selection of hors d’oeuvres, raffle, and live music by Just the Two of Us. Music will start at 7 pm. Public welcome. Dec. 11, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sion Lutheran Church in Chatham will hold its annual craft and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be cookies, candies, breads, crafts and gently used jewelry.

≤ Dec. 11-12, the Marquette Choral Society will present two concerts featuring the music of John Rutter and Ralph Vaughan Williams. The concerts are at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 11, and 3 p.m., Dec. 12, at St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette. Admission will be by free-will offering.

≤ Dec. 18, Sounds of the Holidays: the Marquette Symphony Orchestra live in concert, 7:30 p.m., Kaufman Auditorium, with music of the season. For more information, www.facebook.com/MarquetteSymphonyOrchestra

≤ Dec. 18, 1-3 p.m., the Marquette Regional History Center invites the public to a 185th Birthday Party honoring the Upper Peninsula. Mark Ruge will speak at 1:30 p.m. about the 1836 Frost Bitten Convention. Attendees will sing happy birthday to the U.P. and enjoy a piece of birthday cake, coffee and punch.
