‘Brew Feast’ to combine beer, food in support of Feeding America West Michigan

MARQUETTE– Ore Dock Brewing Co. — “where craft beer and community meet”— and two other major players in the food and (community) service industry are doing their part to support Marquette and the larger northern and western Michigan community to combat food insecurity.

On Sept. 20, the brewery will be hosting the first “Brew Feast” event, in partnership with the America Culinary Federation Upper Michigan Chapter and Feeding America West Michigan.

“It has been our honor to host events benefitting some of the most influential service organizations in our community and something we have greatly missed over the last year and a half,” said Ore Dock’s Co-Founder and General Manager Andrea Pernsteiner in a news release. “We are excied to again partner with Feeding America West Michigan and the astute chefs of the ACF Upper Michigan Chapter to bring this event to the Marquette Community.”

There are 80 tickets available now for purchase at $65 each from the Ore Dock website. From 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., at Ore Dock Brewing Co., 80 lucky diners will indulge in chef-created meals crafted specially to pair with a different Ore Dock beer each.

The six teams of chefs from the ACFUMC — a professional club dedicated to the promotion of culinarians, the hospitality industry, and culinary arts — are:

≤ Alden Griffus, Certified Chef de Cuisine, and Derek Estes from Northern Center and Events;

≤ Dan Lynch and Scott Bousson from Northern Michigan University Dining;

≤ Eric Juchemich;

≤ Angela Verburg;

≤ Robin Holmes, Certified Executive Chef, Wiles Food Services; and

≤ John Romps, Certified Chef de Cuisine, Stonehouse Restaurant

Proceeds from the event will benefit Feeding America West Michigan.

Of the community-focused partnership, Kenneth Estelle, president and CEO of the food bank said, “Feeding America West Michigan is honored to be the chosen benefitting nonprofit of this event with Ore Dock Brewing Co. and the ACF Upper Michigan Chapter. Food is at the center of what we all do and we’re glad we can come together and make a big impact!”

And in addition to supporting the culinary industry, ACF Upper Michigan Chapter President Eric Juchemich made it clear that the organization is also invested in supporting the community in which it is based.

“We all have a desire to provide for others,” said Uchemich. “I do not know of a better way for chefs to help others than to provide them with a meal. Please join us in raising money for Feeding America West Michigan and help feed those in need.”
