MARQUETTE — The Hiawatha Music Co-op, one of the leading arts organizations in the Upper Peninsula and host of the Annual Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival, recently welcomed four new leaders to its 2021 Board of Directors.

Members elected to three-year terms include: Bobby Glenn Brown, Katrina Keough, and Ann Fisher. HMC Member Jenna Hartom also was elected to a one-year position on the board, filling an opening due to early vacancy. The board seated a new executive board at its January meeting with Julie Foster-Lindquist as president, Susan Bertram as vice president, Katrina Keough as treasurer and Bobby Glenn Brown as secretary.

In addition to recent leadership changes on the board of directors, HMC is also preparing for executive changes with the upcoming retirement of its Executive Director Susan Divine. The organization is seeking a passionate individual with an interest in the arts to serve as executive director. The position will oversee operations, programming, and activities as well as act as the face of the organization.

This is a .6 full-time equivalent position (1,200-1,400 annual hours) with a variable schedule and seasonal focus — March through August on annual Festival event planning and implementation (average 20-40 hours per week Spring/Summer) and more flexible scheduling around programming and activities September through February (average 12-20 hours per week Fall/Winter).

The executive director reports directly to the 10-member board of directors and has oversight over part-time office staff and volunteers. A significant portion of work is supported through the help of committees and volunteers including 36 festival area coordinators.

“This is an amazing opportunity for anyone looking to be an active member of the arts community, work in a leadership role, and collaborate with many amazing and dedicated individuals who help provide the community with access to great music and performance opportunities,” Divine said. “I’m going to miss this role but know it will be just as rewarding for the next director. I couldn’t have asked for a more welcoming, positive work environment or experience.”
