Fire at KI Sawyer results in 1 dog perishing, no injuries
MARQUETTE — A structure fire took place Monday morning at a four-plex at K.I. Sawyer that resulted in a total loss of the building. No injuries were sustained, however, one dog perished in the blaze.
The cause of the fire is still undetermined and is being investigated today by the Michigan State Police Fire Marshall as the investigation is still ongoing, Forsyth Township Police Department Chief of Police Brian Kjellin said.
Forsyth Township Fire Department and EMS, West Branch Skandia Fire Department, Sands Township Fire Department and Marquette County Rescue 131 responded to the fire around 6:45 a.m. at 504 Invader St. in Gwinn, and were at the scene for four hours.
The fire rekindled a few times and responders had to go back to the site throughout the day, Kjellin said. Responders were able to contain the fire to one plex of the four-plex building as best as they could, but it’s a total loss and won’t be liveable, Kjellin noted.
