Contract update: Marquette Township Board to hear manager negotiation progress

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Township Board will hear an update about its search for a manager during its meeting tonight at 6:30.

The board at its May 19 meeting unanimously approved a motion to send the proposed contract offer to Thomas Markus, former Lawrence, Kansas, city manager, for either acceptance or counter-offer.

The offer includes a starting salary of $101,500 with a 2.5% annual pay raise in addition to a yearly bonus contingent on a “good” performance review, a story published in the May 20 edition of the Mining Journal states.

If negotiations are successful, Markus would replace current Marquette Township Manager Randy Girard, who is expected to retire in the coming months.

The board will also discuss how essential Marquette Township employees could return from remote work.

Township offices, amenities and facilities will remain restricted in compliance with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s executive orders until they are lifted, according to Girard’s report to the board.

Those wishing to participate in the virtual meeting can do so at this web address: us02web.zoom.us/j/82966091708. The meeting ID is 82966091708. Residents can also participate by phone by dialing 1-646-558-8656 and keying in 82966091708# when prompted.

Public comment can be submitted in writing up to 15 minutes prior to the meeting by emailing Marquette Township Clerk Randy Ritari at rritari@marquettetownship.org.
