30 years ago

NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee Male Chorus will present its 60th anniversary Spring Concert at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at the Negaunee High School auditorium. The theme of the concert is “Musical Memories” and features music from the choral repertoire spanning 60 years. The group is directed by Mary Trolla with guest conductor Mary Margaret Reichel. The accompanist is Evelyn Jean Bertucci. Special honors will be presented to five members of the chorus with 25 or more years of service, including Joe Phillips, Wesley Larson, Phillip Johnson, Nick Lenten and Woodrow Reichel. Former singer Wilfred Lenten will be honored for 55 years of singing with the chorus. Tickets are $1 and can be obtained from any chorus member. Following the concert, refreshments will be served in the school’s commons, where chorus uniforms, scrapbooks and other memorabilia will be displayed.

60 years ago

NEGAUNEE — One of the special entertainment features presented for Michigan Congress of Parents and Teachers state convention delegates was a square dancing demonstration at Memorial Gymnasium. Under the direction of Mr. and Mrs. William Anttila of Ishpeming, the group participating in the exhibition included Mr. and Mrs. Allen Heikkinen, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Berry, Mr. and Mrs. Paschal Arsenault, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Marin, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Mitchell and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Nelson.
