MARQUETTE — Spread Goodness Day will co-host a food drive from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Ore Dock Brewing Co. with Getz’s Clothiers to collect donations for the Marquette St. Vincent De Paul and Salvation Army food pantries.

A photo shoot will take place at the event, and anyone who donates a food item will receive a free pair of Spread Goodness Day sunglasses or a sticker.

Spread Goodness which takes place on March 13, kicked the year off with a partnership with Getz’s Clothiers selling SGD apparel. All sale proceeds from Jan. 1 to Feb. 28 benefit Spread Goodness Day’s mission and help fund the Shades for School program, according to a SGD press release.

“I would absolutely encourage (people) to participate,” event organizer Anna Dravland said. “It’s really a simple day where people can get engaged with what they want to do. The point is to spread their goodness out there.”

The Shades for School program provides recyclable sunglasses to 5,000 students nationwide who’ve applied for class or school-wide good-deed projects, organziers said.

Overall, Spread Goodness Day is a global day of kindness that encourages all people to do do good deeds, Dravland said.

“Simply being good is important and teaching people to do good is important. I think we are in a time where we have to be good and affect change,” Dravland said. “This is an overwhelming world and besides, it feels good. Do it for selfish reasons.”
