Owling event at MooseWood

MARQUETTE — MooseWood Nature Center will host an owling event Friday to look for northern hawk, barred and great horn owls in Marquette.

The evening will begin with a twilight search starting at 5:15 p.m. on Wright Street just east of Presque Isle Avenue for the northern hawk owl that has been hunting in the old city composting site. Following the twilight search, there will be a short program at MooseWood Nature Center at Presque Isle on the “Owls of the Upper Peninsula” at 6 p.m.

After the program, participants will car pool to several sites in the city limits to search for great horned and barred owls. The Christmas Bird Count last month turned up three or four great horned owls.

Families with children will need to practice their being as “quiet as a mouse” skills as the group listens for somenative owls. Dress for the winter weather. All ages welcome.
