MAPS to host district spelling bee

MARQUETTE — Marquette Area Public Schools is hosting the annual 2020 District Spelling Bee.

MAPS students grade 5-8 have had the opportunity to participate in the well-known annual Scripps Spelling Bee. After proving to be the best spellers in their classrooms and schools MAPS has 34 students competing on Monday at the Marquette Senior High School Shirley Smith Little Theater at 4:30 p.m., according to a MAPS release. In the time honored tradition of a spelling competition, MAPS appreciates that the bee’s purpose is to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabularies, learn concepts and develop correct English usage that will help them all their lives, the release states.

It further states: “On behalf of our staff, MAPS values all of the families and friends that participate in each round every year as a spectator or study partner to support and witness the true journey of Scripps National Spelling Bee competitors. Join us on Monday at 4:30 p.m. in rallying around our spellers, cheering in their victories and sympathizing in their defeat. Through it all, these spellers can teach and remind each of us in the community a lesson on true dedication, grit and resilience of the human spirit.”
