ISHPEMING–A new automatic elevator door recently installed in the ambulance entrance of Bell Memorial Hospital has cut the time required to move ambulatory patients to treatment centers from as much as five minutes to a matter of a few seconds. The installation completes the ambulance entrance project, which was started at the hospital about one year ago. The automatic door was installed at a cost of $5,000 by the Otis Elevator Co. Previously, the elevator could not be called and the elevator door could not be opened from the ambulance entrance, but attendants were required to climb a flight of stairs to the main floor, bring the elevator down to the ambulance entrance, and open the elevator door from inside the elevator.
