Rock, Mineral Club invites public

ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club will be meeting at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Cliff Shaft Mine Museum, 501 W. Euclid St., Ishpeming.

Doors will open at 1 p.m. to allow members and visitors time to bid on silent auction specimens and to view the club’s mineral collection. The program will start at 1:30 pm.

Local Author and IRMC Club member, Dan Fountain will present “Michigan Gold & Silver: The Lake Superior Connection.” In this presentation, Dan presents tales of pioneer explorers looking for silver and gold in the wilds of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Set in the 19th century, these explorations were largely influenced by Lake Superior.

In turn, the development of the mining industry of the entire Lake Superior region was shaped by some of these Michigan pioneers. Learn about the prospectors, investors, Great Lakes captains, inventors and swindlers who were part of this colorful era.

A door prize drawing, a 50/50 drawing and a business meeting will follow the program. Everyone is welcome to attend, enjoy, and learn about the wonders of rocks and minerals. There is no admission charged.
