Museum to celebrate milestones
ISHPEMING — Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum will hold an Iron Ore Heritage Celebration on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m..
The one-day event is designed to celebrate the “people and the rich history of the Marquette Iron Range.” It will commemorate such events as the 175th anniversary of the construction of the iconic A and B obelisk shaft houses at the Cliffs Mine Museum and the 40-year anniversary of the closing of the Mather B mine in Negaunee.
Several blacksmiths will be onsite for the event, including Cliffs Shaft’s own David Arbelius as well as George Potvin of Ten Mile Creek Forge and Gordon Gearhart.
Various local crafters will also make an appearance including artisans, jewelry-makers and others displaying their works. Cognition Brewery, Lawry’s Pasties, Yooper Goddess, the Venice Pub and Pizzaria and Smokehouse Glenn’s are also expected to be onhand at the evetn.
Musical entertainment will be provided by Toni Saari and a bounce house will be available for children in attendance as well.
