MDDA’s Lang retires
Marquette Downtown Development Authority Executive Director Mona Lang smiles while chatting with an attendee of her retirement party Thursday evening at the Casa Calabria in Marquette. Many people came out to wish Lang well, as she’ll be retiring effective Sept. 30 after over 20 years at the MDDA. Lang said she was amazed and “overwhelmed” at the turnout and is grateful for years of support and collaboration within the community.“You could never do this job without the support that I’ve had,” she said. “And I think what really stands out is how proud the residents are of downtown.” Lang’s been at the helm for many changes over the years, with downtown property values more than doubling during her 20-plus years in the postion. Lang also oversaw nearly $12 million in public improvement projects and obtained over $5 million in grants, according to DDA officials. MDDA Assistant Director Rebecca Salmon will take the helm after Lang’s retirement. “I know that she is going to do just a great job and I’m really proud to have helped mentor her into this postion,” Lang said. Overall, Lang looks forward to visiting with family, relaxing and “just spending some time enjoying our city from the other side of the desk,” she said. (Journal photo by Cecilia Brown)
